Channel your inner Marcy Justice and break out the hot chocolate bar for the family!
The crock pot should make this all fairly hands off. Just dump the ingredients together and set the slow cooker on low, stirring periodically until the chocolate melts. At that point, switch to your “keep warm” setting, or just make sure to stir occasionally. You can sub in non-dairy milks as you need, but oat milk is the best option from what I read.
Hot Chocolate
6 C milk (I like 1 or 2% but you can use whole)
2 C semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips (semi for sweeter, bitter for richer flavor)
1-1.5 C whipping cream (obv reduce this amount if you prefer a lighter version)
1 small can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (this will thicken and seriously sweeten, so leave this out or half it if you prefer a lighter version)
1 tsp vanilla
Adjust these amounts as desired for the flavor you like! If made as written, it’ll be a very indulgent little drink, and ready to add your toppings. If you want to skip this, you can still heat milk in your slow cooker and add a hot chocolate powder mix and then get to the good stuff (toppings).
Toppings
Toppings for your hot chocolate can include basically anything you can imagine, but here are some ideas:
marshmallows (find fun shapes and colors!)
crushed candy canes/peppermints
sprinkles!
gingerbread crumbles
chocolate sauce
caramel sauce
a cinnamon stick
whipped cream
chocolate shavings
And anything else that sounds good! If you have suggestions, drop them in the comments below or share with me on Instagram!
Set out the toppings in small bowls with appropriate serving utensils as needed and get those mugs ready to fill. Hope you enjoy this fun treat if you try it!
